----------------- do ----------------   on the night 16/17 whilst engaged in working on front lines near NEWTON POST the enemy bombarded the working parties with TMs causing 11 casualties (1 O.R. killed - 2 shocked - 8 wounded)

Battalion relieved the 18th Welsh in Front Line - Right subsector - GONNELIEU SECTOR night of 21/22 July. The disposition of the Companies were as follows:

  A  Coy on the Right with D Coy in Support
  B   ---   --  ---  Left   with C -------  Support

A patrol from the Left Coy consisting of 1 Officer and 20 O.R. came into contact with 2 strong hostile parties and we suffered 1 Officer - 2/Lieut E.M.EVANS and 7 O.R. wounded and 4 O.R. missing.
